GIVE BACK IN OAKVILLE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

Amongst the hustle and bustle of getting ready for the holidays with family and friends, many people take the time to find out how they can give back in Oakville this holiday season. Whether you choose the same cause every year or you are looking for a new way to help others this holiday season, there are plenty of Oakville food and toy drives happening that would love your support.

Things to keep in mind before you donate are:
  • Check the food bank's website for their list of most needed items.  While all donations are appreciated, they appreciate being able to provide all times of food items to those who need assistance.
  • Toy drives usually receive lots of donations for babies and younger children.  Items for kids ages 10+ are the most needed.  Jewellery, gift cards, games, school supplies and warm clothing items are good ideas for this older age group.  You might be able to find something unique at one of the local Oakville craft shows happening over the next few weeks.
Be sure to involve your children in your giving back project, it is never too early for them to learn compassion and why giving back is important.

FINDING AN OAKVILLE TUTOR

Back to school is here!  If you think your child may need some extra help this school year, Oakville tutors provide many different options.  Children can be tutored at home or in a tutoring centre and they can also be tutored in a specific subject or provided assistance in general critical thinking and homework support.

Before you hire an Oakville tutor, here are some questions to consider:

  • Does my child needs a tutoring specialist to tackle a specific subject like math or English?
  • Do I have the space at home for an in home tutor to come in and assist my child?
  • What are my expectations of a tutor? Will your child's grades at school increase and by how much?
  • What type of assessment happens before the tutoring starts to determine what my child needs?
  • What are the cost and payment options for hiring an Oakville tutor?
Tutors in Oakville offer a great resource for children having difficulty in school.  Don't be afraid to reach out and ask for help.  A tutor could help make this year the best school year yet! If you are looking for more resources for Oakville Kids, check out the Back To School Guide.

christmas_shopping
Top Toys this Christmas for Oakville Kids is a list compiling the popular items we’ve seen and are sure your children will love!

Christmas shopping is exciting, we choose toys for our children and imagine the big smiles coming to their faces on Christmas morning. Every year there are new and exciting inventions, and 2014 is no exception! We want to help you find the right gift for your child to enjoy. We’ve looked through the toys hitting the top of popular charts and we’ve marked down the ones we think will bring the most fun for kids ages 5-12.

This age is great as the majority of toys can be used by this age group.  They are old enough to understand more complicated games, they can focus longer and put more creativity into what they do. The world opens up with more technologically advanced items bringing lots of opportunities to learn. We found toys to encourage your child’s development and creativity allowing them to grow through play. Click here to view the full list.

CHRISTMAS ACTIVITIES IN OAKVILLE

Oakville activities and events allow us to delight in Christmas cheer every holiday season! As we roll into winter, the kids look forward to spending special time with their families during festive events. The holidays bring warm celebrations with Santa, holiday shows, religious services and lots of fun and games! Winter snow invites us to bear the cold and hit the slopes or outdoor rink, make a snow man, and delight in the white fluffy coating that brightens the chilly night.
christmas-tree-ornamentsWe look forward to sharing special time with the people dearest to us, bonding over the good cheer. Some of our neighbours may not celebrate Christmas, or any holiday tradition, but it is important to be respectful of everyone’s beliefs and welcome them to share in your cheer. This is also a good time to teach your children about values like compassion, giving and sharing.
As always, we’ve found plenty going on as early as November. Look through family shows, outdoor activities, concerts, parades, and much more.
